I have not yet installed it, so I can't tell you how well it works. However, the spring tension on the damper flaps is quite tight. Others have said they were able to remove one spring and improve operation. However, the current design uses a spot-welded hinge, and therefore the only way to remove a spring is to destroy the spring by clipping it off. Note there are 3 springs. Things can be kept symmetrical by removing the middle spring. I have not yet done this. (1 of 1 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful? Cons Best Uses Comments about American Aldes Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper - BDD7: The product is used with a broan 220cfm kitchen range hood fan with two speeds. Because of a heating/cooling duct, I needed two 90 degree elbows to duct from the fan to the outside (about two feet of ducting). On low speed the damper doesn't open entirely. Damper was moved from a vertical duct to a horizontal duct to eliminate some effects from gravity. Still doens't open the whole way, but does circulate air out of the house. Works just fine with the fan on full speed. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Yes / No - You may also flag this review 7/5/2011 nice replacement Pros

Cons Best Uses Comments about American Aldes Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper - BDD7: First I ordered the Broan backdraft damper and it was just junk! No pin for the leaves to swivel on, and you could hear the leaves hitting each other and hitting the seat whenever the fan was on. Ordered this, installs like a dream and makes not a sound. Comments about American Aldes Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper - BDD7: My neighbor had been complaining about the draft coming from the vent from her range to the attic. I ordered the backdraft damper-[...] I went to their house to install said damper. I unscrewed the mesh filter over her range and found that she had taped a piece of cardboard over the back of the mesh in the hope of blunting the cold draft. All I did was insert the damper in a matter of seconds, took off the cardboard and tape from her work and reinstalled the mesh filter. All told probably 5 minutes and that included talking to her. I have two I have ordered installed in my house. I have a island countertop range and for the past two winters that I have owned the house had to cover the exhaust vent to prevent cold air from entering the house and that didn't work well at all so I ordered and installed a backdraft damper from this company and behold! No more cold air from the exhaust! Cold air was entering the house from a return duct so I installed another damper in the a/C/heating vent. If I had to do it over again, I would have ordered laast winter but I didn't know the dampers existed! Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about American Aldes Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper - BDD7: I used this for a new kithchen range hood. It is so much better than the cheap dampers that you get with the roof vent caps. With care it can be adjusted by removing one or two of the three springs that hold the damper shut when idle. I have nothing negative to say. It is well made, I know it will last. Comments about American Aldes Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper - BDD7: Dear iaqsource,I wanted to THANK YOU so much!!I could NOT for the life of me find any decent inline damper anywhere for a standard/common 7" range hood and finally found it thanks to you guys!! You sell the ONLY good damper!!The Broan / Nutone BP87 is the WORST *** ever, when it's windy it sounds like gun shots are going off in the house "smack, bang, crack", made our new home experience miserable. To my amazement [...] doesn't even sell a 7" damper. I found an Air King E-22 7" damper and it was a *** too. Only thing is I had to carefully pop out the hinge rod and slide off the side springs, leaving just one in the middle because the damper didn't open on my fan's low setting (good to know). The fact that the sides springs can be removed for weaker fans fairly easily is another plus. The Aldes BDD7 has a far better design and a soft rubber seal no more snap, crackle, pop when it gets windy out like the Broan BP87. The spring also ensures the Aldes BDD7 doesn't open when it's windy allowing drafts in either. Thank You!!
