Live in Tucson, Arizona where it gets quite hot during the summer. My townhome was built in the early 70's. Both bathroom exhaust fans have straight pipes to the roof. The current damper set-up is old & aged and the weather stripping is dried up. I ordered 4 total, 2 for each bath. After removing the current damper and making a few minor modifications, I cleaned the exhaust piping and began the installation process. (My only product complaint is that the exterior outer most weather stip on 2 pieces was cut much to short!) I also decided to remove 1 of the 3 springs per unit, the center spring. My top units, exterior, was installed in piping a tad larger than my interior pipe so I caulked these into place to stop the unit from sliding down and also ensure I had a good seal due to the shortness of the weather stip. The lower, interior unit, fit into place like a glove. Once all 4 were installed in both bathrooms, I also removed the Emerson fans, cleaned & oiled them, and reinstalled them. I now have very energy efficient exhaust fans in both bathrooms. Futhermore, during windy situations in the past, my old dampers would constantly make noises, opening & closing causde by the the wind. This no longer occurs due to the springs on the new units.

I had read reviews of this damper in which people said that using all three of its springs made the damper too stiff, so that it wouldn't open when the range hood fan is on the low setting. Following their advice, I unhooked an end of two of the springs, leaving just the middle one active. However once I ran the range hood on high, one of the damper flaps flopped over onto the other one and stayed there even after the fan was off, leaving the damper half open. Enabling the two outer springs and disabling the middle one cured this, and now the damper works great. Other than tinkering with the springs, installation couldn't be easier. I just shoved the damper up into the 7 inch pipe and it stayed there on its own thanks to the foam rubber ring that surrounds the damper.

Fits perfectly in my 7 inch over stove duct. The gasket holds it in place with no need for screws. I am using it with a microwave/range hood and it opens great on high and low speed. It is exactly what i was looking for

Product works good, wasn't able to get the gasket around the outside of the duct to fit into the existing duct but I think it would have if I had trimmed the drywall back a little so I can't blame that on the product, I just used some silicone and all was well.
About the only con I can think of is that sometimes on a windy day the wind will create a vacumm on the duct and pull the damper open for a second and then close it. Not a huge deal but it is audible.
Overall I like the product and am glad I found it. Apparently 7" duct is used a lot for kitchen/microwave hoods and it can be tough to find stuff like this for such an odd size duct.

New house did not have backdraft damper on vent hood in kitchen. Could feel cold air coming in and new this was like having a 7" open hole in the kitchen when the fan was not on.
Item installed easily and works like a charm. No more hot or cold air flowing backward into the house.

these will not work in the inverted postion. the flaps open even with the springs trying to hold them closed.the advertising says" can be used in any postion"

Fast delivery; good functionality; quiet. I used it in the exhaust vent of my kitchen range hood. There was a very cold draft coming down the vent, and this item, it appears, has stopped that.

Installed this before mounting a new range hood. It has three springs that hold the two flappers. Tested on new hood to make sure the flappers open on lowest fan setting and it did not open completely. I did remove one spring and it now opens on lowest fan speed. This is completely quiet with no banging metal to metal as the seals are rubber. Great product!
