This is achieved by combining 100% synthetic electrostatically charged media, optimum pleat spacing and high quality construction. These deep-pleated filters have exceptionally high initial and sustained efficiency, high dust holding capacity, and very low pressure drop. The media is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, does not absorb moisture and will not support microbial growth.
These pleated filters are made to be installed in the Aprilaire/Space-Gard 2200 and 2250 Air Cleaner. They are fully expanded - and no assembly or pleat spacers are required. Simply place the filter in the plastic inner housing and slide it in!

The filter element -- for this AprilAire filter -- being replaced is dirty and removing it is not a trivial operation. It's messy and there is a danger of damaging the supporting structure – The Frame.
Then (as originally designed), the replacement filter element has to be unpacked, expanded (accordion-like) clicked into place in the frame, and THEN separated by a bunch of comb-like separators. Finally, the frame slides into the filter housing. During this procedure, there are numerous opportunities for the clumsy homeowner (me) to get filthy and break something. Frankly, I'd not have purchased the AprilAire filter had I known about the aggravation involved.
However: The element I got from Discount Filters is a single element that pops into the frame. The frame slides into the filter housing. The housing cover is replaced. This is much better.
