Local stores did not have a comparable instruement that would read humidity, so I went on line to find what I thought would be an expensive professional Humiditry Instruement. The one selected "Acurite" has exceeded my expetations, and at a very reasonable price. The extra features ( high and low temps and Humidity) are useful.Of course the noted humiditychanges almost by the hour is useful in adjusting the furance humidifier.

I have several of these and find them quite handy. Because I have several of these I've figured out a few quirks. (1) The humidity sensor on a set of these will vary by about 10 p.points. A given unit is pretty consistently either high or low relative to it's siblings. (2) The temperature displayed for all the units is very consistent but it's probably only accurate to about 1 degree F. I think it is probably measuring in degree C under the covers and converting to F before displaying which means that certain F temps are unreachable and you'll see the thermostat twitter between the two adjacent numbers rather than display the untouchable number. (3) Unsurprisingly, it will take about 40 minutes to stabilize on a new humidity reading if moved from a place with a very different humidity. OTOH the temperature stabilizes at the new value in about five minutes. -- I doubt any of these behaviors is critical to normal users, so I'd recommend this device for nearly everyone.

I saw the Acurite Humidity Monitor at a friend's home while visiting in Ottawa, Ontario ,and really liked it. We looked for one in the stores there, but could not find it. When I got back home to Malta, NY, I went online and ordered one. I carry it around in the house and use it in different rooms depending on what I am doing. I have no regrets on purchasing the product and would recommend it hightly.
