Well, this model was made just for you. Designed to fit 2" x 6" joists or larger, this low-profile fan doesn't sacrifice performance for size. This ventallation fan utilizes a 4" ovalled duct for those areas where a smaller duct is necessary.
So Quiet You Might Not Know it's On This WhisperFitT fan features a totally enclosed condenser motor and a large, double suction blower wheel to quietly move air. A small wheel turning very fast will create more noise than a large wheel turning more slowly for a given airflow. Our fan uses a wide blower wheel that moves a large amount of air at reduced RPMs. The blower wheel is also designed to draw air in from both sides, which helps keep the noise down, as there is more area for the air to enter the wheel. In fact, it is quiet enough that you might not even know it's on.
Continuous, Trouble-free Operation for Many Years This fan is designed to give you continuous, trouble-free operation for many years thanks in part to its high-quality components and permanently lubricated motors which wear at a slower pace. Also, since heat is always detrimental to motor life (the cooler the environment, the longer the motor will last), we designed the electrical configuration of this model's condenser motor to allow it to operate at lower temperatures, increasing the life of the motor and bearings. And, the fan housing is made of heavy-gauge zinc galvanized steel and painted to protect it from rust.

We have an older home built in 1970. The 3 inch was perfect. It is so quiet we had to double check to make sure it was on. We purchased 2 of them. I even noticed less steam on the mirror when the shower was on, since we installed the new fans.

I selected this fan because I had a low height available above the fan. I installed it in a bathroom that is beneath a staircase. And, I had existing 3" ducting running from the fan it replaced. This fan fit well.
The noise of the unit is low. It is not "silent" as some other fans are described, but with its low profile and 3" duct outlet, it will be noisier than larger fans with larger ducts. There is no noise transmitted to the rest of the house from this fan. You only hear it in the room it draws air from and then that sound is very tolerable.
I use this fan to clear a 25 ft2 toilet & sink only bathroom and it is more than adequate for the job despite having to discharge through ~40 ft of 3" metal flex duct. I ran the unit before installing it to make sure it worked. It was noticeably quieter running without having to buck the pressure loss in the long run of flex duct.
The unit is supplied with all needed mounting hardware except wire nuts. Installation instructions are clear and well illustrated. Installation took <2 hrs to remove the old fan and install this one.
This is a well made quality product. If you need its special size at its air flow, you will not be disappointed. If you have more room and can handle larger duct, go with a different fan

We replaced an old NuTone fan in our guest bathroom with this model and, while significantly better than our previous fan in both efficiency and volume, it is a bit louder than we anticipated. Overall, however, we are pleased with this fan.

On advice of a home energy auditor, we upgraded our twenty-eight-year-old bathroom fan with this product and are totally happy. We leave it on all the time (our house is VERY tight and we installed this in addition to a fresh air inlet at the other end of the house) and don't even hear it running. My husband has commented how the bathroom no longer fills up with steam when he showers as it did with the old fan. We plan to buy another to install in our second bathroom which does not currently have a fan - a summer project!

This unit not only does a better job, but does so in a quiet manner that renders it almost inaudible. It is worth every penny, and I would highly recommend the purchase of this product.
