I replaced my old thermostat because the UP button didn't work. I wasn't able to raise the temperature setting. I was told that this model was out of production and told to buy the Venstar T1700. Instead I searched online and found the exact replacement at half the price of the newer model. Installation was a breeze. I just had to adjust the pins for gas/electric package unit. It's default setting is for gas and if you don't adjust the pins on the motherboard it will blow warm air. But the adjustment is very easy. Just look at your existing thermostat and replicate the settings.

I like these mainly because they can be used for 2-stage heatpump, electric or gas and they don't use batteries. They also have a constant back-lit display with large numbers.

Very difficult to pull the front plate off--especially if it is still on the wall. You just about have to destroy it to get it apart. There is no reason they cant redesign the way you take this mother apart.

I bought this thermostat to replace an earlier model that was not working properly. Your representative on the phone assured me that it was a direct plug in replacement for my older model. This was not true. It did not fit the wall plate for my older model. I had to change the wall plate and transfer all the wires. After that it worked just like my old model.
