A small wheel turning very fast will create more noise than a large wheel turning more slowly for a given airflow. Our fan uses a wide blower wheel that moves a large amount of air at reduced RPMs. The blower wheel is also designed to draw air in from both sides, which helps keep the noise down, as there is more area for the air to enter the wheel. In fact, it is quiet enough that you might not even know it's on.

Also, since heat is always detrimental to motor life (the cooler the environment, the longer the motor will last), we designed the electrical configuration of this model's condenser motor to allow it to operate at lower temperatures, increasing the life of the motor and bearings. And, the fan housing is made of heavy-gauge zinc galvanized steel and painted to protect it from rust.

Love this fan. Got a contractor to install it so I can't speak for its ease of use. Bathroom is 45sqft and this is more than adequate. Mirror doesn't fog up after we take a shower, even with window closed. And the fan is so quiet we don't know it's on half the time. Good thing we didn't put in a second switch for it, just tied it to our light switch.

This fan rated less than 0.3 sones but still can hear the fan noise. And the noise is not that soft. It makes some kind of metal grinding noise though quiet. If this fan is running in the small office, it may bothers many people because it still generate noise. Also, it's too big for its capacity. Big motor with low speed generates less noise but this one is still too bulky.

I purchased this fan for a small powder room/half bath (5x6)- my primary concern was noise, since there is no shower/tub to raise moisture concerns. I am thrilled with the purchase - the fan is so quiet you almost don't think it is doing anything, but it definitely is. Contractor installed it so I can't speak about installation ease, except to say he didn't seem to have any issues. I would definitely buy this fan again.

Installation went more easily than I expected, and the fan does a really great job of keeping our bathroom dry when showering. Installed in a very small bathroom (<50 square feet); would recommend a more powerful model for most other applications.

This fan is almost too quiet. It's easy to leave it on. Eliminated steamed up mirrors in our bathrooms. Only flaw is that the installation instructions are unnecessarily complicated. They show several different installation options, but it is hard to figure out which one applies. Actual installation was quite easy, though the dimensions of the cutout were a little different than the noisy Nutone I was replacing.
