Comments about Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Programmable Universal Thermostat with Outdoor Sensor:
We'd bought this unit online to control a new furnace and ac. I also wanted to control the humidifier as well as have the humidity levels displayed on the thermostat. The local company that installed the furnace and ac did not really understand the installation or setup of the Honeywell thermostat, and was a little hesitant about the unit but together we got all the wiring done. Now, it's been installed for a few weeks and my initial impression is that this thermostat is really worth the small amount you'd pay versus a basic thermostat. The controls are very easy to follow, and the setup takes a few passes to set all the functions; everything works great. Only issue I did have was the outside temp sensor. The installer mounted in on the outside of the house near the ac unit, in the early morning the sun shines directly on the sensor making the temp reading increase by some 30 degrees. The instruction recommend the sensor placement under the gutter or under the eve, anywhere where the sun will no directly shine on the sensor. In my home I would have been impractical, so I mounted the sensor behind a large bush inside of a small plastic junction box. Now the readings are always correct. Overall this is a pretty nice setup. And the thermostat looks great on the wall.

I use this thermostat in my principle residence and it works very well. I ordered this one for my winter place in FL, but returned it because it was not a new/unused unit.

Comments about Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Programmable Universal Thermostat with Outdoor Sensor:
The remote outdoor sensor is nice. I installed this thermostat downstairs where we spend most of our time. I can quickly see what the outdoor temperature is. I also installed a radiation shield to house the sensor. If direct sunlight hits it, it will read 20 or so degrees higher than air temp (true for all temp sensors). I also purchased the remote indoor sensor and installed it at the original thermostat location upstairs, configuring the thermostat to average between itself and the indoor sensor.
Cool features: - Can set dehumidify control without a dehumidifier by running the A/C (may go up to 3 deg below set point). - Capability to control ventilation, humidifier, dehumidifier, and multiple systems/zones, although I only have 1heat/1AC (auto detects all connected equipment). - Can quickly and easily modify a scheduled time period's properites. For instance, if I know I'm coming home earlier than usual today, I can change my arrival time with about 3 taps of the screen. Very intuitive. Other programmable thermostats I've seen have clunky interfaces and discourage modification for fear of messing something up. - Can modify multiple days to have the same schedule (not just copy previous day). You actually select each day from the list at the top of the screen. Pretty Cool. - I like the Equipment Interface Module. Makes modifications/additions/deletions of equipment fairly easy (once you run the cable, of course). Note: This thermostat cannot be used without the EIM, as it only has 3 wires. Everything connects to the EIM rather than to the thermostat. - Can set the filter reminder after either a certain number of calendar days, or a certain number of runtime days. - Always-on backlit screen. Dims after 30 seconds so you don't have to tap the screen to see it in the dark.
Cool features it COULD have: - Wish you could view indoor humidity from the main screen while using remote sensor. You have to tap the 'more' button. Not a big deal, but would be nice. - Wish it also had outdoor hygrometer capability. In the south in the summertime, outdoor humidity information is extremely important.
For a thermostat, this thing goes above and beyond. I wanted more weather station-like functionality, but I'm pleased with it overall.

Comments about Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Programmable Universal Thermostat with Outdoor Sensor:
This is the third unit of this type I have installed. No greater complement can be had than the service tech installing this unit saying it is great. He has seen a lot and this one is his favorite. It is great especially the humidity control. Don't waste your money on cheap units or really expensive ones. This is a great value for the money. Great company to purchase from as well. [...]

Comments about Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Programmable Universal Thermostat with Outdoor Sensor:
Tied in AC w/dehum control, 2-stage furnace, dehumidifier, 2nd thermostat in basement, and outdoor temp sensor. Circulate mode for fan with 2nd sensor in basement does a pretty good job keeping the temperature difference between main floor and basement reasonably close.
Biggest problem is Honeywell refusing to talk to anyone but a licensed HVAC technician.
Manual fails to describe how to program dehum contacts for normally open and normally closed settings. To get full functionality for dehum where N.O. contacts reduce AC fan speed and still allow the thermostat to pull temp below the set temperature (up to 3 deg F) for further dehumidification, I will have to add a SPDT relay. The relay will allow me to convert the dehum N.C. contacts to N.O. as required by my Kenmore unit.

Comments about Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Programmable Universal Thermostat with Outdoor Sensor:
I was very impressed on the ability to integrate humidifiers, dehumidification, ERV ventilation and heating. There are plenty of options to use when setting up the controls. It did take a fair amount of time to wire up and check out circuitry Thiswould not be good for an average homeowner without some controls and electrical experience that justs wants to connect 4 wires at the themostat.
