Mount it vertically, the return springs do not exert much force and may not cause the damper to seal if not installed vertially

Damper opens on slight pressure. Closes quitely and stays closed.

This backdraft damper has performed as expected to date. It was installed in the ductwork between the outside "flapper" and a downdraft fan. We had a tremendous amount of cold air coming into the kitchen prior to installing this damper. It was easy to install...and more imporantly, NO MORE COLD AIR. Advise though...don't expect a tight fit like other vent pipe fittings. Expect that it will be a little loose and you will need to use duct tape to secure it in place.
