Cons Best Uses Comments about Fantech RSK4 Spring Loaded Backdraft Damper for 4" Duct: I purchased a remote mounted Fantech fan with a grill housing with an integrated plastic backdraft damper. The plastic backdraft damper was very noisy when it was windy. I ordered this spring loaded backdraft damper, removed the plastic backdraft damper and installed the new one. This one is very quiet and does the job. I wish this was recommended with the grill housing, it would have saved extra work. Vanes are aluminum and will not rust. Small spring (hopefully SS) provides light pushback (would still recommend mounting as vertical as possible). Opens nicely with pressure. Only issue is slip fit to mating ducting is very short, perhaps 1/4" to 3/8" before an internally protruding rolled stiffening rib is hit. Had to use three self-tapping screws to hold it in place (then tape) and fit it to the ducts on a bench rather than in-place. Had they rolled the stiffening ring going out rather than in, it would have had easily 1" or more of mating slip. Once in, very satisified. Comments about Fantech RSK4 Spring Loaded Backdraft Damper for 4" Duct: My dryer was backdrafting and dropping lint all over the house when it was not running. Evidently there was a heat convection going out of the second floor somehow. The damper works real well. The outlet side has a raised hub ring about 1/2 inch from end so you can not get a standard 4 inch galvanized pipe over it far enough to stay connected. I had to beat it flat with a hammer in order to get the exhaust pipe over the unit to fit properly and then metal taped it. Other than that I would purchase again. Cons Best Uses Comments about Fantech RSK4 Spring Loaded Backdraft Damper for 4" Duct: The vent enclosure has it`s own backdraft damper mounted inside the unit at the exit point. This is certainly not enough and Fantech should say so. After installation, the slightest wind outside would push the damper closed and make a noise every time. there is plenty of distance between the roof vent and the bathroom. The noise was making me crazy,so bought this backdraft damper which solved the problem right away. Mounted in the attic after the fan itself. In hindsight should have seen the need for this. No way would the damper in the bathroom work AND the cold air would still enter the bathroom. This damper stopped that also. I also bought the 6 inch damper for another bathroom. Comments about Fantech RSK4 Spring Loaded Backdraft Damper for 4" Duct: Installed two of these vertically on top of two Fantech FR100 fans used as bathroom exhaust fans. The first time I turned the first fan on and then back off, the flappers failed to close completely. They seemed to work properly on subsequent attempts, but the initial failure left me with a slight feeling of doubt. I hesitate to add any weight to the flappers for fear of reducing airflow. I suppose that a significant backdraft would force the flappers closed anyway so I'm not too worried about it. These are of much higher quality than the plastic ones you can buy at your local hardware store. Cons Best Uses Comments about Fantech RSK4 Spring Loaded Backdraft Damper for 4" Duct: I installed this directly onto an in-line exhaust fan. As far as I can tell it is working well.
