Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: This is a great product that performs well. The unit is so powerful that a speed control is probably the best option for this item. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: I'm using this fan as a duct booster. I added two vents to a sunroom at the far end of our house but was getting very little airflow from our furnace due to the distances involved (about 50 feet thru a 6" duct, about half of that being insulated flex duct). I wasn't sure how much boost power I needed so bought a somewhat overpowered fan and also a speed control to slow it down if necessary. At full power, this fan blows a LOT of air, so much so that it robs a noticeable portion of the air from the other vents in the house, so I do use the speed control to tame it down. It's a bit noisier than I had hoped. There's absolutely no noise coming out of the vents that it actually feeds through the flex duct, but the fan noise does travel back to the main duct and out the other vents in the house. I added a duct muffler, which helped somewhat, but the noise level is still noticeably higher than that produced by the furnace blower alone. The fan seems to be well built. The installation instructions are good. The terminal block made it very easy to connect to AC power. I do wish the parts of the fan that mates with the ducts were a bit wider - there's not a lot of material there to work with. Regarding the speed controller, I actually bought two speed controllers along with a pressure switch. When the furnace blower is off, the pressure switch powers the fan with a controller set to a very low speed, which constantly gives the sunroom a bit of needed air circulation. When the furnace blower kicks on, the pressure switch switches to the other controller which is set at a higher speed and provides plenty of warm/cool air to the room. Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: We added a room without taking duct work into consideration. Money being in short supply, our original plan of adding another inside wood stove wasn't feesible. I had heard of booster fans so we went to the local hardware store. They tried to sell us an oven vent or bathroom vent fan as a duct booster fan. Little dinky plastic blades in an alluminum section of round duct. We couldn't even tell it was in the duct system, other than the squeeking sound it was making. I started reading up, online on different booster fans. I was looking at cfm to begin with. I kept tripping over the cheaper fans like the one we already had tried. Fantech centrifugal fan had a variety of cfm to pick from. Steel instead of something dinky! Price seemed more in line with the kind of BOOSTER fan I was looking for. Got it, installed it and the add on room went from a cool fifty degrees without this fan to the whole room staying around seventy when we have the fan running! Works like a dream. It has some noise but the way the added on room took shape there is no help for that and I would rather be warm than to be without this fan! IF you need to get the warm air moving into a hard to reach section of the house this it the fan for you. We had a six foot piece of insulated flex pipe that the heat needed to travel down to get to the added on room. We also had very little room to work once we got the fan under the house because we had added this room on by going through and old porch with a concrete floor poored over very little crawl space. Considering the lack of room to work and the distance traveled 450cfm worked really well. We could only get one vent into the room with no return air possible for this location. Depending on your situation you may need the smaller cfm or the larger cfm depending on Distance, vents, lack of air return etc. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: I used this Fan to pull Hot air from second floor and pump into the cold basement. This Fan is so powerful, the flex pipe I used, had to be replaced with semi rigid flex pipe, to keep it from pulling apart. The upstairs temperature is now consistent with the setting on the main level thermostat, and the basement temperature has increased by 2 degrease. Also, the dehumidifier in the basement does not run as often. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? The fan failed to extract hardly any smoke. I don't believe it is actually 483 cfm. Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: I bought this product to replace my fantech 243CFM blower for my range hood. Overall, it is a sturdy product. The mounting bracket could be better designed and of better quality. You must be careful in the placement of the screws attatching the bracket to the fan as they can easily impeede the blade rotation. Unfortunately, this unit was just as noisy as the one I replaced. A bit of a bummer, but it does work well Service and delivery comments: Recieved my shipment very quickly and in good condition.Had to return two other products that did not fit with my pre-existing system. If I had not checked their web site for their return policy,I would not have known about their on-line form. It was easy to find and use though. They very promptly credited my account. Overall, VERY GOOD customer service & delivery. Would not hesitate to order though them again. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: I have been a professional videographer and photographer for 40 years. I recently retired and am now doing metal art. I do brazing, welding, grinding, etc. in my small shop. I knew that I needed some kind of exhaust to take out the fumes and dust. I first installed a bathroom exhaust fan that I bought a Home Depot for about $30.00. It was 50 CFM and totally useless. I then learned about inline fans and the type of power that I needed. I then started doing research on what brand to buy. I decided on the Fantech and bought the 6" 483 CFM and am glad I did. It was easy to install and runs really quite. I cut a 6" hole in a shelf directly over my work area and ran my duct pipe directly into the fan and then to the outside. Now my air is changing in my room about every 2 to 3 minutes. Comments about Fantech FG6XL Inline Centrifugal Fan - Galvanized Steel - 450 CFM: I am using this fan with 6" ducting to move hot air from a computer room to the other end of the house. It is very powerful and has solved the problem of the hot office / computer room. By using this fan I saved the cost of adding a single room air conditioner for my office. There is some noise from the output vent but that is due to the huge volume of air that this fan moves. I plan to add a speed controller later if this becomes a problem.
