Sensaire® technology detects rapid increases in moisture levels at the ceiling, where steam and humidity naturally rise. Regular humidistats located on the wall simply detect absolute humidity levels and are prone to false triggers, or not operating when they should. An automated solution to fight excess humidity and mold. Our humidity sensing fans turn on and off automatically to help prevent cosmetic and structural problems associated with excess moisture. Hands-free operation.Since you never have to worry about turning the fan on, Broan Ultra SilentT is ideal for problem areas in residential, institutional and light-commercial applications. Our exclusive Sensaire® technology is a perfect solution for high-traffic bathrooms, or a kid's bathroom.
It turns off automatically, and that saves money.Humidity sensing fans are ideal for anyone who leaves the house before humidity is properly vented. With a fan this quiet, you can't forget to turn it off when the job is done. That saves energy and money.

I've installed 9 of these so far, mostly bathrooms and recently 3 apt complex laundry rooms. 3 of my bathroom remodels were very moldy. I wired these to be automatic and all 3 bathrooms with the most recent being 9 months ago are mold free. The apt laundry rooms were very musty, not anymore. I just wish there was a model for 2*6 ceiling
This fan is acceptable, except their product description: 'Ultra Silent' is misleading and false advertising, 'Quiet' would have been a better term, at least it wouldn't be a false statement. The main reason this is such a critcal point is that you do not know what the noise level is until you have already installed it and it would be very impractical to uninstall it after all the work and time invested. I felt so strong about this that I wrote to the manufacturer to express my discontent. Other than that, the fan is working well.
It's a great vent fan, and performs exactly as advertised; we're still getting used to it coming on when we have the house open and the humidity outside begins to creep up.
Haven't owned long enough to really rate effectiveness, but certainly works as advertised. Goes on as soon as you start using shower and stays on for a while. May go on for a short time after it's initial clearing of humidity which suggets it is doing the job of clearing humity from collecting on ceiling & causing mold. Also, it's pretty quiet & not annoying.
I ordered two fans to retrofit into my bathrooms before we added extra insulation in the attic. The fans we replaced were 36 years old and only had a rating of 80 cfm at 3 sones, so the new fans were a HUGE improvement. I like the "auto-on" feature, but don't like that I can't control the amount of time the fan stays on after it turns on automatically (unless I turn the switch off). I live in an arctic environment where moisture control is imperative, but I also don't want to pump all of my indoor heat outside for an hour after I took a shower either.
I am very pleased with this quiet fan with an automatic switch and a manual over-ride. It has a humidity sensor and automatically shuts off no longer than 20 minutes, or after the moist air is vacated. The sound is barely noticeable. A timer switch is not needed. This fan makes a huge difference compared to the original nutone fan. The $150 or so price is higher than a standard fan, but it is worth the money especially if you consider how long you will enjoy this appliance. Just do it.Richard Small12-10-09
I received a home energy audit by our state and they recommended humidity sensing fans once we had taken their additional home tightening measures. Doing research, I found these online. Our local home improvement stores do not carry them. Our local electrical supply store was willing to order them for twice the price.
