Instructions: 1). Turn home thermostat mode to "OFF' and fan mode to "AUTO"
2). Remove Air Cleaner door
3). Remove dirty filter
4). Expand clean filter
5). Install new (clean) filter with Air Flow arrow pointing toward furnace or air handler. Align filter top and bottom rails and slide into place. Replace door
6). Press reset on air cleaner control
7). Return home thermostat to original settings
PROS: Very good at cleaning the air of dust and allergens.
CONS: 1. Difficult to install --- before sliding it on, you must align all four grooves (top/bottom, left/right), which can be tricky in an attic.
2. When I changed my filters today, I found that the glue holding the tops of both of my old filters had failed at some point and both filters had collapsed. This meant we had no air filtration for an unknown period of time. Very annoying.
CONCLUSION: I like these filters and will give them another chance. I will regularly check the new filters to ensure they haven't collapsed. If they do, then I will find another filter solution.
I checked the "Compact" box because they're very compact to store. The older options for these Aprilaire high-performance filtration units are either bulky (the just-put-it-straight-in kind) or really a bother (the put-it-in-the-plastic-holder-and-separate-the-pleats kind). I recommend the upgrade to allow use of these. It's easy and they have a nice video that shows how to do it right on the site.
Paid my AC/Heating Co. $120.00 dollars to change the filter and now I'm saving boo-coo's $$$'s doing it myself. Just slide the other one out and then slide it in!
Great product that has made changing filters a lot easier since I upgraded to these filters. Do not see any degredation of the cleaning from the older type of filters.
