The replacement for the FC40R Return Grille Filter is a high-efficiency, long-life replacement for return grille applications. It captures a significant amount of the airborne particles in the air that circulate through the filter. (Honeywell recommends allowing a depth of seven inches behind the grille to provide space for the deeper filter and airflow through the filter.)
Honeywell recommends changing your filter once a year. It may be necessary to replace it sooner depending on the conditions in your home.

I had a new Central heat and air unit installed 3 years ago and the installer services my unit twice a year. I was letting them change the filter both times, but they charge me more for one filter than DiscountFilters charges for two. I love the prompt service, and the filters arrive in perfect condition. One larger filter with greater surface area extends the useful life. This filter replaces having to change multiple smaller filters monthly - I am changing at 6 months but could go even longer. I installed this filter into an existing intake box and had to slightly modify the insulation that lined the box. Once modified, replacement is straight forward and I don't have to worry about air flow thru my HVAC system - I monitor the pressure drop across the filter in my house.
I rated this 4 stars as I cannot state "It doesn't get any better than this" as 5 stars indicates because I have not tested every product available.

I purchased the IAQ Merv 11 filter to replace the Honeywell Merv 10 currently installed as the return filter for my Carrier unit. When the filter two pack arrived, I compared the old and new, and found the quality to be about the same. The best part was that the two-pack of filters cost less than the single Honeywell filter.
