We installed a ducted range hood (Broan QSE130SS) replacing a non-vented hood in our kitchen with the help of a handyman. The installation of the vent was a lot of work. I didn't know we needed a damper close to the roof-cap. We heard all the wind from outside and when it was cold outside our kitchen got cold too. I searched the internet for ideas and found that I need to install a damper. Aldes 8" seemed to fit the need so I ordered one. I installed it myself just below the roof-cap removing the adjustable connector that connects the 8" vent pipe to the roof cap, and inserted the damper to the top of the pipe. It fit perfectly. The O-ring around the damper was a tight fit to the vent pipe. Then I re-attached the connector. All work done in the attic. I didn't have to go to the top of the roof. Now I don't hear any noise and no cold air getting in to the kitchen. Very good design. Works really well. Thanks Aldes.

This is my second order for one of these dampers. They are reliable, in-expensive and easy to install. It does a good job keeping the wind from coming in through my ductwork when I'm not useing my fan.

I forgot a damper until I felt a cold breeze in the reading room. You must put one of these on an 8" inline fan. This unit is silent and the spring closes the butterfly in any orientation.

INSTALLATION NOTE: if you'll install this on a S&P TD-200, make sure that you have a section of hard duct in which to mount it as it does not fit into the exhaust side of the fan. I used a universal angle "swivel joint" elbow because it was less expensive and smaller than a section of 8" duct. Put a screw into each side to hold it in place because a fan that size will suck the hair off a cat. Use short screws (might have been 1", but 3/4" I think) and make sure to locate them where they won't obstruct the butterfly.

I used this damper in my range hood 8" vent pipe in my attic. Was a little loose, so I added sheet metal screws to ensure it would not slide down the pipe.

Have used this damper in over 6 installations, to date, without any problems and or callbacks.

I bought a 1050 CFM range hood, and the internal damper did not shut out the outside air. Saw this and bought it. Installed easy into the pipe, and works great. I installed it horizontaly. The spring is light enough it does not affect the fan, but strong enough to close the butterfly back up. Seals out the cold air great. Definitely will get again if I install any other ducts.
