Discovered that my humidifier was leaking about a week after starting up the furnace this fall. Took it apart, inspected all parts, and found no blockage, cracks, etc. Reassembled everything and still leaking! Found this site while doing research on the web, ordered after reading the reviews. Took about 15 minutes to install the replacement kit and NO LEAKS! Woohoo! Two bonuses- the kit now contains the nozzle that past posters had asked for, and the diffusion tray is much sturdier than the original equipment. (Bought the house last year, the previous owners did not leave manuals for anything. After finding the manual online, learned that the rough coating that I scrubbed off the original tray was not scale, but a necessary part of the dispersion system- argghhh!)

I moved into my house 9 years ago and it already had the Aprilaire 550 installed. However, it was not functioning since the inside parts were missing. (I found them shortly after moving in, but since I did not know what they were for, I threw them out with the rest of the trash!) I never even looked into getting replacement parts until about 4 weeks ago. I bought the Maintenance kit and was thrilled to install them, turn the water supply line back on, turn the humidistat on, and actually have the humidifier working! After 9 years of just sitting there, everything still worked. I has eliminated the static electricity that was painfully zapping us all the time, and our comfort level has risen greatly.

Installing the Tune-Up Kit was easy to do and brought my Aprilaire back to original conditon.

A simple set of instructions would speed the process. The former owner didn't use all of the parts, so I couldn't go by what was there.

The kit should contain a nozzle to make it complete. If the original broke, you'd have to stop in the middle of your repair. It's an expensive piece of plastic if ordered separatly. It should be included with the kit.

Everything was a drop in fit except for the orifice in the water hose. My old orifice was much larger than the new part. It was no big deal to exchange the old orifice in the new hose. It took about 10 minutes to perform the updated parts and return to normal running. The only thing I would like to see changed is the hose itself. I believe the hoses would last longer of made from a softer material.

It is great to get new water panels and water tray together. Did not use any of the hoses etc. Also bought new nozzle based on other reviews, but did not need it. The old one works fine.

This is a very useful kit to extend the life of your humidifier. It took about an hour to put everything together and install a new drain hose that I picked up at the local hardware store. You can do it quicker but I took my time. This is the first time I have rebuilt one of these and it's fairly simple for the average homeowner. I also ordered the Aprilaire 4184 Nozzle. The old nozzle was O.K. but I wanted to take care of it while I was ordering and had the humidifier apart. If the nozzle was included it would really make this a complete kit. The humidifier in my home was installed in 1992. I am confident with the rebuild kit it will last another 10 years. All parts are now new except the humidifier housing and the electrical controls. The rebuild kit was definately the way to go for me, it was much easier and less expensive then installing a new humidifier. I would have given the product 5 stars if it included the part 4184 nozzle. The nozzle was cheap enough but it would be nice if it was included simply for convenience. I only knew to order it due to other reviews.

Kit was complete and installed easily. I added the inline fileter that was not installed initially and although the water supply seems adequate I am not able to increase the humidity in the house as much as before the rebuild. I plan on removing the filter to see if this will help. Nothing really to do with the replacement products. Just FYI

Pretty simple, but be very careful handling the pieces! The hose and the element track are very brittle materials and crack if dropped. Why not use rubber hose? THe brittle hose is very difficult to snake thru the housing.

All the parts you need to upgrade your humidifier, except the nozzle mentioned by many others, I ordered that, based on the other reviews, and am glad I did.
There is one little part, about the size of the little tang that hangs off a Bic pen cap. It says it is a water filter. It goes on the water INLET of your brass valve. I fished the old one out with a dental pick no problem, once I realized where the little part went! It says it on the package, and I actually did read it, it just did not register INLET.
All in all, a simple kit that makes your unit like new at 1/3 the price of a new one!

I don't normally leave feedback but for this I had to. [...], the price is fair, easy install and good idea they sold all in a package because theat helps me know all that I needed, At 1st I didn't think I needed the complete package but as usual I was proven wrong by the experts. I felt like a hero because I save alot of money doing the clean-up work & filter change out to my own HVAC home unit. As everyone else suggested buy the Nozzle #4184 cuz the old one will most likely break off while you pull it apart due to the calcium looking build up that water does to to it. I gotta commend this company for their level of excellence. I am happy when I can buy on-line with no hassles and get exactly what I ordered. I will buy in the next 6ms when I need to change out my filter again because my package came with an extra filter so I can choose to change it in 3ms or 6ms. Awesome :)

There's a nozzle that has to be removed from the water distribution tray, and like others, I couldn't remove it without breaking the part of it that holds it in place. The nozzle should be part of the kit. I would recommemd the kit to a friend but would also tell them they need to order the nozzle.

I'm not handy around the house, but I managed to replace everything in the kit. However, there's a nozzle that has to be removed from the water distribution tray, and I couldn't remove it without breaking the part of it that holds it in place. I noticed others have commented on this, too, so I didn't feel too clumsy. I didn't order the $7 replacement nozzle (which ought to cost ~25 cents, and that really ought to come with the kit ! ), but everything seems to be working OK with the nozzle just sort of perched into place.

I recently purchased a tune up kit for my Aprilaire 550 humiidifier, which has been in operation in my home for 15 years. This was the first time I replaced any of the components in the system besides the water panel, which I replace annually.

All the parts were easy to install and fit the unit as expected. The unit continues to function similarly to how it has worked for the past fifteen years. This has been a very reliable humidifier. I tried using a non-Aprilaire panel once and it did not work (water was blowing through).

During this year's maintenance, I removed the solenoid valve and soaked it in vinegar. I then cleaned the internals with a q-tip. Following the replacement of the in-line filter, I removed the two mounting screws that attach the solenoid to the humidifier body. With the water supply and power connected, I used the humidistat control to activate the solenoid several times and flush it into a small container. Following the flush, I reinstalled the mounting screws and then the supply tube including the restriction orifice.

This kit is very easy to use, I would recommend adding a 4184 nozzle to this kit as they are hard to get off the old part(I broke mine bending it to get it off)If you had that nozzle it would be a snap to install.

I was replacing my filter and parts for a 550 humidifer. This was easy to install and it came with an extra filter, so I'm good for a couple of years. Saved a lot over having someone do it on a service call or checkup. It replaced all the parts except the nozzle, but that's not a big deal.
