Original Aprilaire #4040 replacement solenoid valve. Note: Valve styles may vary. 24 VAC 2.3 Watts Replacement solenoid value for Aprilaire Humidifier models 220, 224, 400, 440, 500, 550, 558, 560, 568, 600, 700, 760, 768. The #4040 soleniod valve includes a new inline strainer (pre-inserted in inlet side of valve), and a compression nut & washer for the inlet side only. Solenoid Valve Replacement Instructions For power units unplug electrical cord. For bypass units turn off power to furnace. Also turn the humidistat off. Shut off water supply at the saddle valve Disconnect inlet and outlet water compression nuts. Double wrench. Note, some water may drip on floor. Remove the orifice (which controls the water flow) from the plastic or copper tube and make sure there is no obstruction. If blocked clean or replace. Remove the wire nuts from the water solenoid valve wire connections. Set aside. Remove screws that secure valve to unit. Attach new valve with screws. Do not over-torque screws into plastic housing. Reconnect wires with wire nuts. For units with plastic feed tubes inspect for brittleness, hairline cracks, nicks or abrasions, etc. Replace if necessary. Reconnect the water lines, double wrenching the compression nuts. Turn water back on and check system for leaks. Tighten compression nuts as necessary. Restore electrical service and activate furnace by turning up the thermostat. Turn up humidistat to verify operation of humidifier. Recheck for leaks. Turn down humidistat to make sure valve shuts off. Reset humidistat and thermostat to original levels.

To replace or not to replace a faulty solenoid, that is the question. Whether my mental exercise in eliminating possibilities as to the working of the old solenoid is effective becomes moot if I just buy a new one and hope for the best. Alas, without equipment it is impossible to electrically verify the old solenoid; if it has failed, I must assume that 8 years is the taxable limit on such devices. So I'll buy the dang thing, hook it up and hope to avoid writing another review. - DONE. The new solenoid installed exactly as the old and works great. It would have been nice to have wire nuts included in the package however.

This was a very easy part to replace and I'm back in business with the humidity I need during the winter months in Ohio. This part lasted me about 8-winter seasons before it went bad and just stopped working. I wasn't getting any water flow at all to the humidifier and nothing was plugged up so replacing the solenoid did the trick, works fine now I hope I get another 8 yrs.

Overall good product, easy installation seems to be working great. Have a lot of wood in the house including guitars that need humidification. Our Aprilaire 550 sputtered out last winter and filling the small room size units gets old pretty quick. Did some quick multimeter testing and determined this part, and the in duct humidistat were both kaput. Perhaps a one hour install for both parts and the humidistat required limited duct opening modification to replace the old unit.

I am hesitant to purchase this item again. I purchased the same part from a local store and installed it on my Aprilaire 440 humidifier. The installation was easy however the valve did not operate at all. The solenoid valve that is on the unit does not have the brass valve it has a molded valve. The system has current, I can hear the current one cycle when I set the Humidity control. The new one didn't do anything when connected and consequently there was no water flow. The unit may have been defective. Is there anything special required other than connecting the wires and waterlines?

The reason that I got the Aprilaire Valve from you was, The company that carries this valve in Cincinnati would not sell it to me because he said that I was not a sevice tech for Aprilaire in this area but he did sell the # 12 filter, this is the only reason that I had got the unit from you. What is funny is that I have worked on high speed lines in maintenance for the largest Pop company for 35 years, I don't know if you control any of the operation in Cincinnati but this 24 Volt is a very simple unit to install.
It took me 5 mins. to put in and it works great and my wife is very happy now her dry skin has gone away. Thanks Doug Kohlman

This product is easy to install and operates as expected. However, my experience is the product normally fails about 2-3 years into service. The failure mode is inability to prevent continuous delivery of water into the humidifier (mechanical, not electrical). i.e. the valve stays in the open position. I suspect the seal gasket inside the valve has failed. The product can be disassembled to separate the solenoid from the valve, but I couldn't find a website that sells only the valve. You have to purchase the entire product. I use hot water for my humidifier (recommended). Changing to cold might increase the life of the product. The hot water may be accelerating the deterioration of the valve seal.

This soleniod is a perfect-fit replacement for the original solenoid (which is no longer made) on several April-aire model humidifiers. It appears well made [...] The water fittings are all one piece, unlike the original factory solenoid which had both inlet and outlet fittings, meaning more joints to possibly leak. Only negative is that the one piece water fitting makes it more difficult to remove the water filter for cleaning/replacement than the factory-original model. The removable fittings on the factory model allowed you to push the filter out from the back side.
