We had trouble finding a replacement filter so we were overdue. When we found the filter at a good price we purchased the replacement. I remember when we first replaced our unit and how much cleaner my furniture stayed. I'm back to my furniture being without dust for longer periods of time. Replace your filter per the recommentations. It saves you work and headache (literally) in the long run.
