Bought this one to replace an older model of the same thing, when the switch died. This is a GREAT flashlight! If you boat, hike, camp (which we do not), this is the product for you! It is waterproof and floats, is easy to prop up to help you work in the dark to change a flat tire or put up a tent, and gives reliable BRIGHT light. The best part is that it takes four regular D size batteries - none of these special (read: Expensive) 9-volt or specialized batteries. You can get them in the grocery store. Once you have this flashlight, you'll never want another!

I bought the orginal product in the late 1970's and this year (2008) had to purchase another one because the rubber dried up on the switch, cracked and the switch gave out. I had many years of good service with this product.

This is the best flashlight for outdoor use I've ever owned. Rubber-coated and waterproof, I owned a previous model to this one for over 15 years. I finally succeeded in breaking it (my fault, not product defect), and was elated to find the Garrity 1700 on the iaqsource website. It has a very bright, strong beam and is one tough flashlight. It stands in place without rolling around, either on its belly or on the flat back, whenever you need both hands for something else. I would buy this same flashlight again and again -- and I just did!

I had one of these for years and was satisfied. I broke it and bought another mainly because I like using the ubiquitous size D cells rather than the specialized 6-volt cells that tend toward intermittent connection problems.
