I have only had this unit for 3 weeks, but my opinion so far is that it is as advertised. I bought it to use in our basement after my second homeowner store bought dehuidifier died. It was very simple to set up, pluged it in and put a pan under the outlet for a few days till I had time to build a shelve for it. I then ran the included hose down and out through the exterior wall. Withen hours of haveing it running in our 650 square foot basement we noticed a differance in the humidity level. And withen days we noticed that the mold which had begun to grow had stopped expanding.I also feel the price was right, could not find it for less on the internet. Hope they ask me to review it again in a year, and that I will be able to give the same high rateing.

I had used two other portable dehumidifiers in our basement, but they would only last 12-18 months and run constantly before breaking down. It was time to get the right equipment for the job and the Aprilaire 1700FS was exactly what we needed. Big enough to do the job and with the quality we love from Aprilaire. (We also have the Aprilaire home comfort system, air cleaner and humidifier -- all are great).
The 1700 is perfect and, to my surprise and delight, IAQ packaged it with the drain adapter and hose. I ran the hose into the condensate pump, plugged it in, and we were in business. About 18 hours later the dehumidifier was "caught up", the basement was dry, and the compressor only needs to run occasionally now to maintain the desired set point.
For the price, ease of install, size of unit, and 5 year warranty, this is a no-brainer vs. cheaper portable units that just can't handle the job.
Shipping was extremely prompt. Ordered on a Sunday, had it delivered on Friday. The packaging was great -- strapped to the pallet, clean, all packages tightly sealed and wrapped/bundled together.
I have very high expectations and the packaging and shipping job exceeded even what I was expecting. I don't believe it could have been done better.
I look forward to doing more business with IAQ in the future -- you're clearly a class act.

I have a nicely finished basement (approx. 1000 sq. ft.) that was beginning to smell slightly musty. I installed the Aprilaire 1700FS ducting it only into the basement. It was easy to install. It is quiet yet very capable and moves a lot of air. It has made all the difference in my basement and I highly recommend it.

We opted for a professional level of dehumification in our damp, humid basement as we just purchased a large number of camping and outdoor gear. A lot of this stuff would rot or rust in the basement. The relatively low cost for savings in ruined equipment made this a no-brainer. The 'room-sized' units invariably had at least one review saying it basically arrived DOA or didn't last long. That, and the fact there was no option for repairing it, not true of this unit, also turned us toward a higher level unit. We are MOST pleased with our purchase! The house a/c itself has been cycling on/off less often, so we know it is more energy efficient in a round-about way. So far we have no misgivings and have had no problems.

New Foundation was poured against and on top of ledge. Historic building could not be relocated and had to deal with ground particulars. Water causes extremely wet foundation walls and slab. Perimeter drain inside and out did not handle the entire problem. 2700sf basement of which half is extremely wet. NOW COMPLETELY DRY! GREAT PRODUCT!!

Had to buy pvc pipe with hose fitting to drain....Should consider providing as a bonus to the buyer.

The best thing about the Aprilaire FS1700 was that we could just plug it in and turn it on! Our basement is 1800 square feet, painted concrete and it had a few cracks that were seeping in. We had gone 3 months without a dehumidifier and weren't even running the AC upstairs because of a cool summer in Michigan. Our humidity was 80% in the basement! We set it up and in 24 hours it was down to 73%, and another 24 hours it was 66%. It runs fairly quiet, and now that it isn't running 24 hours a day to catch up, we don't even notice when it comes on and off. We highly recommend this product if you are looking for a whole house humidifier.
We also like the option that we CAN tie it to the duct work down the road if we want to dehumidify the whole house.
Delivery was fast, and came in perfect condition.

My basement was at 80%+ humidity. The flooring was starting to lift. The flooring actually had a wet sheen on it. We were beginning to get mold on stored items and the walls. Within 24 hours of installing this plug and go unit, I was at 40 to 60% humidity and our basement is usable once again. I will never buy a [...]dehumidifier again. This unit is a godsend.

We lived for years with moderate humidity problems in our basement which made it tough to use the space for a family room, or for storage. We've tried using smaller dehumidifiers from Sears, but they just run all the time and don't do a great job.
We finally decided to spend the money and get a large dehumidifier for the entire basement. After quite a bit of research we settled on the Aprilaire 1700FS primarily because it was claimed you could just plug it in and go (which is true, by the way - it was a breeze to install).
After installing the unit our humidity issues disappeared in just a few days. The air downstairs is just as fresh as the air upstairs, and we're comfortable storing holiday decorations and family photos in the basement.
The Aprilaire 1700FS is pretty quiet (you have to really focus if you want to hear it running in the unfinished part of the basement), and was a really easy way to make our basement usable again.
