The original add indicated that it would fit as a replacement for my Nautilus model N671. This was not the case, but I liked the fan and the squirrel cage blower. After looking the situation over I decided I could make it work by using my old base plate. With some modifications for mounting the motor assembly I got everything to work. I am very pleased with the unit and enjoyed the challenge to make it work for my application. It is about 50% less quiet than the old unit it replaced. I am pleased with the unit.

Additional CFM is really not that noticeable, however it was VERY easy to install AND works at least as good as the old unit. You cannot beat the fact that you can avoid going up in the attic to pull out the entire unit. This installed in less than 15 minutes.

I use this for my bathroom that is 8'x 5'x 8' and I like the look of the grill and that it is quiet but I still have my mirrow steam up during shower. I am not sure why it would not take all of the steam out of the room. But it does a better job then the one I had in.

We used this to replace a broken Nutone 696N and it worked perfectly. We aren't very handy around here, but we managed to do it in about 15 minutes. Very pleased. Maybe our old one wasn't very loud, but this doesn't seem any quieter. However, we weren't really looking for a quieter one.

This model was the only type that would fit the existing housing. It seems to be more powerful than other bathroom fans and it is definitely noisier. The cost was higher than I would have liked but since it is the only that would work, I had no choice.

When replacing the noisy 690 series fan, it lowered the Sone level from 60 to 30, a significant difference. It took me five minutes to replace the existing fan.

The new fan motor is very quiet and more efficient fan vanes remove the fog from the shower faster than the old style. The cover is more attractive and stylish than the older cover.
The price for the upgrade is a little high when I compared them to a new older style fan. About three times the price of the older style fan.

Replaced the builder grade unit in a small bathroom. The upgrade kit is definitely an improvement - it's more powerful than the builder grade and it's quieter than the original (still kind of noisy, but an improvement). It also looks better. Good value for the money, but it's not a high-end fan by any means. The biggest benefit is that it plugs right in and you don't have to do any retrofitting, so it's an easy install.

I had a basic model fan in my bathroom. The upgrade made the fan quite a bit quieter, and increased its ability to clear out the fog after a shower by a marginal amount. Here in humid Florida, I was hoping for more power and was not as concerned about the fan noise. However the upgrade was worth the price and the installation is very simple. The new cover is better looking installed than the old square flat cover.

I was looking for a replacement for a 13 yr old bathroom vent fan that had started to rattle and squeal. This product made the job a 15 minute task. It was pretty easy to get the old one out. A little scary, as it seems to have been installed by trained (semi-trained) monkeys. Anyway, the new unit slid into place, and it's working like a champ. All these years of putting up with the old noisy one, and I could have fixed it with 15 minutes work!
All good now, tho!!!

I upgraded two fans in a two commercial bathrooms in a preschool. (The old fans were so loud that they scared some of the kids!) These new fans are a HUGE improvement. I think the old fans were much noisier than normal, but the difference between old and new is the difference between night and day.

This model is great. The switch from my nutone 696 was painless. There were not tabs on the existing box like the directions said there would be, to hold the new plastic fan wall in place. However, simply putting it in place with some friction works just fine. The fan works well at expelling air and is just a little on the loud side. But I have it on a fan/light dimmer(normally used for ceiling fans) that has three settings. It operates really quiet on the middle and low settings. All around a great product.

Didn't quite fit perfectly into existing top plate, but close enough that I was able to get it in by bending the metal a little. These plastic cover plates are always somewhat hard to install, but this one was harder than most - if only they would leave the metal attachers one inch longer, it would make it EASY, but they don't!

I have purchased two 690 kits in the past nine months. They are extremely easy to install. However, the motor on the first one, which was not much quieter than my original fan, failed after 90 days. I called Broan and they sent a replacement motor (with no hassle). I purchased a second 690 kit for another bathroom, and the motor failed after 30 minutes. Another call to Broan, and another replacement motor. A day later, the first replacement motor failed. Yet a third call to Broan. So far, three failed motors in nine months time. Broan has been great; they just send new motors out with no hassle. The most recent replacement motors are noticably quieter than my pre-690 fans. (When the motors fail, they get louder and louder and make growling noises.)

There should be a better retrofit fan (quieter / powerful) for this cheap builder installed version. Better fans required overhead access; not always available.

This unit was a pleasure to install.
It came equipped with a throw away wrench.
It snapped into place and I love the fact that it simply plugs in. The outlet allows an easy test on the system.
The mounting plate was sturdy, not flimsy.
