Aprilaire / Space-Gard #501 High Efficiency Filtering Media (2-Pack) These are the original, OEM expandable "accordian" style, factory recommended replacement filters for the Aprilaire/Space-Gard Model 5000 Air Cleaner. MERV 10 rated. The filters ship like a collapsed accordian and are expanded into a plastic frame within the air cleaner cabinet. The filter is snapped into the plastic frame and held in place with existing pleat spacers. Assembly instructions are printed on the product carton. The air cleaner media in the Model 5000 can last from 6 months up to 2 years. If installed on a 5-ton system, in the presence of high concentration of particulate, or if the furnace fan is on continuously, it may be necessary to change the media more frequently. In any application, the life of the media is dependant upon the total volume of air being moved through it as well as the amount of particulate it is filtering. I've used these filters for years but on my recently received Aprilaire filters the edges of the filter folds were split in a number of places. This allows unfiltered air through the filter (very bad for a system totally designed to provide good filtering). Aprilaire manufacturing and quality control are slipping,

Won't completely eliminate dust in your home but keeps it down to a minimum. Changing the filter takes about 30 minutes but is only required twice a year in my home. I have changed these filters in my home about ten times now and ripped the filter one time so be carful. Overall, I am happy with the performance of this product.

This filter is far superior to the 1" filters used in most applications. Unfortunately the media is easily damaged on the folds and needs to be carefully handled to avoid tears and rips. Users should inspect the folds for thin tears at the fold creases. I've seen this happen multiple times and it makes the media useless as dirty air passes right though.

Air filter fit into my unit with no problems, I just followed the directions on the box. It took my about 20 mins to first time, after that the next time I was done in under 10 mins. Good product, just a little bit more time consuming that replacing an regular air filter.
