Having pets & allergys its great to have a way to know when the filter is loosing effectiveness. My furnace is in the basement and not obstructed on the sides. Mounting the gauge on the side of the furnace was easy and easy to see by bending down. Would recommend the remote hose option would be better to put the gauge in a better visual area, specially if the furnace is enclosed. I even bought one for my girl friends house.

Once the easy installation is done.....all you have to do is just check periodically.
You don't just depend on a date on the caledar.
This gauge tells you when you need to replace.
Bottom line....you only replace filters when you need to!

This is a functional gadget that measures relative vacuum in the air handler compartment(compared to room). It means you can change air filter only when it is clogged as the relative vacuum moves from "zero" difference to a negative value, which becomes greater as the filter progressively clogs. So instead of changing filter on a time schedule, you only need to change it when it gets clogged. Every furnace should have one.

I was alittle doubtful at first. However this simple little gage can save you hundreds of dollars by not wastfully throwing away filters needlessly without it.

It only takes a few minutes to install, by drilling one small hole in your furnace.

This product offers a great idea: only change your filter when it's dirty rather than at regular intervals. Maybe I'll save some money...time will tell. I haven't had it 3 months yet.

The main problem I see with this device is that it only presents a relative reading based on the level of vacuum it experiences. I.e. There is more vacuum with the filter dirty than with it clean. I don't know what level (with a higher MERV rated filter) is ideal for my furnace air handler. There is no objective reading.

I've wanted for some time to be able to determine if my A/C filter is effecient or is it time to replace. It was easy to install, but remember to have a new filter to calibrate the efficiency meter. It must be set with a clean filter. With filters running $85 each you want to get the most out of them without sacrificing efficiency.

Easy to install. Look or reach inside the compartment that the blower fan is located to get an approximate location, and make sure you'll be drilling through sheet metal without hitting anything else. I used a smaller drill bit than specified, but big enough that the little plastic tube fit through. I used a dab of caulk. Very easy to calibrate. Remarkably sensitive pressure sensor. I bought $100 filters because of the severe pollen this year--I assume this [$] product will be totally worth it.

The product is straight forward but it asks you to drill a 3/8" hole in the side panel of your furnace, yet the shaft that goes into the hole is considerably smaller than the hole. I expected a tight, or at least snug fit to this shaft. I guess the self adhesive tape is supposed to creat the air tight seal necessary to accurately measure the air flow coming past the filter.

Installation was a snap. I found that an 11/32" hole was the perfect fit even though the instructions said to use a 3/8" hole. Calibrating it was a little "touchy", but with a little patience you can get it right on the button. Since I just installed it, I can't say whether or not it will do its job. However, with its design simplicity, I just cannot imagine that it will not work well.

This product is incredibly easy to install. Drill a hole and stick it in and you're done - takes less than a minute. Look at it every few months to see if the filter needs changing and avoid the cost and hassle of replacing your filter before it really needs changing.

Installed this on my 4ton hvac system. Install went OK though i don't like poking holes in the sheetmetal, which this does require. The fit is not very tight when using the bit size required, so i caulked it up to minimize the leak. it is a bit touchy to adjust as well. But: it does give a good indication of filter life.

I installed this gage a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be working very well. I followed the directions and it installed easily. I'll have to wait a couple of months to see if it really warns me that my filter needs replacing. I have a wood working shop in my basement and I was worried that I was not changing the filter often enough. So far - so good.

Great idea. Just moved in to a new house. I installed and calibrated it with a new filter. Then I reinstalled the old filter I thought was dirty, and found it was still very clean. Saved me 30 dollars.

My 2nd year after installing a 13 SEER central AC into my 86 year old house I wanted to make sure to get as much out of the system as possible (after sealing all the joints and insulating all the ducts of course) and this gauge seemed like it would be the perfect solution to help stop wasting money on the very expensive filters (I use a Honeywell 20x20x4" MERV 13 return filter). Installation is ridiculouly simple, but you must make sure the surfaces where you apply the double stick pad are absolutely clean using some isopropyl alcohol. A little dust or oil from your hands will cause the pad not to stick and form a leak point. Also, when calibrating use a small screwdriver or blade to turn the screw as using your fingernail will cover the hole (there is some blowby through it)and will change your setting. I have been doing construction on the 2nd floor within 15 feet of the return (I mean gypsum, wood, cement dust) for the past year and have been using the air handler as a whole house air cleaner and used the gauge to prevent overloading the filter and to my surprise, even under those conditions my filter only needed to be changed once in 12 months! I thought for sure using the MERV 13 filter that it would load up much faster. Also, occasionally clean the screen, inside the gauge, of any dust that might block the ports. I can see how some of the other reviewers might think there's a problem with the unit or that it is inaccurate, but it is all in the installation. It's an inexpensive, simple, basic vacuum gauge. But it does what you need it to do. Make sure you have a Good, CLEAN seal! Otherwise, you have no business drilling a hole in your expensive HVAC unit!

With a variable speed blower, you must make sure to calibrate it at the blowers highest speed to get an accurate reading.

The Gage was very easy to install. I also purchased the remote kit which made the installation even easier. All I had to do is drill a hole in the top of the blower area, insert the hose from the hole I drilled and guide it through an existing hole in my furnace. I then cut the hose to length, pushed the hose onto the gage, pulled the tab off the sticky tape & stuck the gage onto the furnace. I turned the furnace on and calibrated the vane in the gage. It took me longer to put my tools away than it took to install the gage.

Even though it is not perfect, as readings change when system changes blower speed, I just have to note at which blower speed I calibrated gauge. The gadget is worth its price. I bought two of them.

The GeneralAire G99 Air Filter Gauge is very easy to install and calibrate. One small hole for installation and one screw calibration with a clean filter. I was changing my 20x25x5 filter every 3 months. Turns out I can probably double that by monitoring the air filter gauge and save $50 a year.

Only surprise was it's smaller than I thought it would be, this has no bearing on its performance and works like a champ. Took longer to make sure the AC unit was sealed off well, than to install the meter/gauge.

For its intended purposes, it's overbuilt. Takes up little room.

Really nice to have a quick means to determine if filter needs to be replaced. Will save cost of too frequent replacement or cost of poor furnace/air conditioner efficiency due to delayed replacement. It was very easy to install and set.

The gague reads inconsistantly. It appears it sticks and if it is "tapped" it will move to where it should be reading.
I would not reccomend it anyone.

I am not sure how accurate this will be. It seems flimsy, but it might work. It does not seem to be a precise instrument, but maybe a ball park guide. Hopefully it is better than opening up the filter and looking at it, because that is not easy on my filters.
