Until I installed this thermostat,I had a constant problem with my forced air furnace; it would frequently cycle on and off -the burners would ignite, but no air would come out. NO HVAC person who ever came to look at the problem suggested I change the thermostat. I simply decided to do it on my own, and WA LA!! the problem of the constant on and off cycling was remedied! I love that this thermostat goes on and off at the EXACT temperature that you set it. The instruction manual was a bit difficult to understand. Once you finally figure it out, its not difficult at all...it's actually quite simple (the manual made it seem much harder then it is). Easy install if you are a handyman or have installed programmables before.

works great, the password feature alone is the best part. no more higher electric bills unless I make the adjustmens alone and the others will have to suffer. lol

This thermostat allows you to set the differential temp at .5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 degrees. That is the number of degrees the temperature must change before the unit kicks on the heat or air conditioning. It was recommended to me by their technician at RobertShaw controls because of this versatility. With that kind of adjustment, you can definitely fine tune your system to run long or short cycles as you desire. The specs may not show this fine tuning adjustment, but it's a fact.

This is my first programmable thermostat. The set-up and user instructions were somewhat confusing at first but no big deal after you get hands-on and dig into it. I needed the keypad lock-out feature and this model has the best secure method over the other models on the market. I like the large display and the overall design. So far I'm happy with this purchase.

I used the product for my apartament and works really good since I need locked controls.

In my opinion there's nothing else close to being as well rounded and versatile anywhere near this unit's price point.
It does everything I could ever need it to do except read my mind and set the temperature accordingly. Installation is simple, it's easy to use... the only drawback is there's so much versatility it can be a little tough to learn all the options available and put them to use.

More positive locks to hold sections together could be improved. Large sized fonts. Push button for LED light. I'm happy with the product.

GREAT PRODUCT ESPICALLY THE ADJUSTABLE DIFFERENTAL
PREVIOUS ELECTRONIC THERMOSTAT WAS CAUSING "SHORT CYCLING" OF OIL FIRED BOILER. (THIS WAS NOT LOCATION RELATED)
THE ADJUSTABLE DIFFERENTAL ON THE ROBERTSHAW THERMOSTAT HAS ELIMINATED THE SHORT CYCLING (AND REDUCED FUEL USAGE).
EASILY INSTALLED, DIRECTIONS ARE ADEQUATE

Has all the features that I required: Adjustable differential, temp limits, and easy to read display. Only con for me was the inability to get the backlight to be "always" on.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
I bought this because of the available 3-degree differential. My old thermostat would turn on the furnace regularly for a minute in order to maintain the exact temperature. That's inefficient and puts unnecessary wear on the furnace ignition. I'm presently using a 2-degree differential (so the temperature drops 2 degrees before the thermostat turns on the furnace to raise the zone back to requested temperature) and I'm very happy with the more efficient running of the furnace.

WORKS TERRIFIC WITH MY PELLET STOVE. THE 3 DEGREE DIFFERENTIAL WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TO ALLOW THE STOVE TO COOL DOWN.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
I bought this to replace a non programmable thermostat. It was easy to install so that was good. The instructions could have been slightly better but then I have yet to see a product where the manufacturer actually cares about good instructions.
What I like is the password protection feature. What I hate is the interface. Programming this unit is not diffcult but its a bit of a pain.
Overall its still a good product for the price.

This produce is what it says it is. Not complicated to install or operate. Great because it allows you to set the temp for 4 different times on weekdays and then on weekends too. Also has a vacation feature that disengages itself at the end of the vacation period (before you leave you tell it how long you will be gone).

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
I purchased this for my downstairs gas furnace/AC after the original was killed in a spring rain/flooded crawlspace event. I had repaired the furnace and then discovered I needed a new thermostat. After much searching to find a match to the original, I decided upon this model. The cost was affordable and I really like the automatic switch over feature here in KY because it can be 29 in the morning and 78 by the afternoon, then back down again. A real plus to this unit over my original (which I paid [$] for) is the temp differential. This allows me to set a range so that the furnace doesn't come on every time the temp drop/rises 1 degree. This alone should save me BIG$$ on my heating/cooling bills. I plan to replace the one upstairs soon to save even more.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
This is a good little thermostat for the price. We replaced an ancient mercury thermostat that we always had to set at a high temperature to keep comfortable. I love being able to program it to change temperature 4 times during the day and a different program on the weekends. I hope it will save us some money on our electric bill. So far the heat seems to kick on less often.
This was also fairly easy to install. Just be sure to read the instructions before you start.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
My tenant wanted a product that adjusted upwards and downwards in half degrees in addition to a half degree differential. The product has only the half degree differential.
This product apparently anticipates a forthcoming change in temperature by beginning early if the difference is great enough. Nowhere in the literature does it talk about this feature and the measurements it uses.
One should be able to turn on the back-lit display without opening the cover. The display is otherwise hard to read in a darkened room.
To turn off the system, one takes it off "Schedule". It should say "System Off" or something to that effect.
There are too many problems here to recommend it to my tenants who are too busy to learn a new gadget. The Bottom Line is with reservations.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
I selected this mainly because it was one of the very few that has adjustable temperature differential setting in this $ range. Temp differential (AKA swing temperature) keeps the thermostat from turning on frequently for small changes in temperature - which is an issue with my house. Most other similar thermostats have a fixed setting and don't give you an option to tune it for your specific installation.
Next plus is the well made push buttons (my previous one had bubble snap type buttons that wore out).
Vacation setting and cool back lighting are great too.
Only one very minor con is that the manual temperature override has a default time of 3 hours. I am used to having default override being maintained until the next programmed segment of the day. Each time you override, the thermostat still gives you the option to enter a longer hold time, however you have to go through a few more key strokes.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw RS5110 Digital Programmable Thermostat - 1 Heat / 1 Cool:
The home I own had two Honeywell T8001C thermostats which seem to run all the time. In the coldest of winter, I could hear the heater shut off, and not 4 minutes later it was back on. After several years, I had enough with the high electric and gas bills and running to the t-stats to manually change their setpoints everytime they started up or shut down. I didn't know there was such thing as temperature differential, let alone that I was acting as a manual one. Upon searching for info on the T8001C, I ran across the Robertshaw models and this website which opened my eyes to the world of t-stats. I can't be sure, but I believe that the T8001C had a 0.5F non-adjustable temp diff. The RS5110 can be set from 0.5 to 3.0, so I set mine to 2.0 and I am loving it.
First off, I was able to use the same mounting holes as the T8001C, which made install a breeze. I don't know about all systems, but my wires were color-coded such that the letter of each terminal screw was the first letter of the color of the wire that went to it, so I didn't need the included labels (which was a nice touch). The pop-up wizard was great and I was able to program each t-stat in less than 5 minutes. I also like the fact that the current temp is the largest item on the LCD: so many t-stats have the time and the temp the same size. I don't need the time that large, as I generally know what time it is. Here, no distractions to checking the room temp, which is nice.
I could go on about all of the great features, but you can read that in the product description. Here are a few that I hadn't read about:
- The flip up door is removable, so I took it off of the upstairs t-stat which is not seen by all. This makes it easier to hit the backlight button, which is not accessible unless you swing the door up (one of my few gripes with the unit).
- The clock on the display alternates with the current temp setpoint, so you always know your current temp and your setpoint (if you wait two seconds).
- You can set a duration for your manual override: 1 hr to 23 hrs (default is 3 hrs). The override time and the current time also alternate with each other, as above. Two gripes here: if I want the temp to be 73 and the current room temp is 72, with my 2.0F temp diff, I have to set the override to 74 just to get the system running. Secondly, it was here that I noticed that if you want to change a setting, the unit will only allow the digit to change when it flashes off, which means you have to pulse you button presses with the flashing, you can't just speed to where you want to go.
- To revert back to normally scheduled settings during an override, pressing the schedule button once is all it takes.
- The heater and A/C icons are visible whenever the system is on, and become animated when the system is running.
I may be a little overly smitten with this unit since I upgraded from one that was causing me heartburn the past few years, but I think all the praise is worth it. And at the price here at NT Supply, you can't beat it. It was sure worth the wait (in lieu of getting something at the local hardware store), and I am sure that I will be happy with these t-stats for years to come.
Highly recommended.
I ordered the day before New Year's Eve. As NT Supply was closed on New Year's Eve and Day, my order was not processed until Jan 2. I called the morning of Jan 5 to get order status and was told due to a UPS error not all orders were picked up, and my order should ship that day. Sure enough, early that afternoon I received an e-mail with the tracking number. The package arrived on Jan 9, so 4-day ship from IN to CA... not too shabby!
