The Robertshaw RS3110 replaces a 12 year Honeywell programmable thermostat which came with our forced air single stage gas furnace. Wiring is simple; just 2 wires between the furnace and thermostat. The new unit is easily mounted on an existing steel wall plate. I saved a lot of money doing the installation myself. The large digital display and large pushbuttons are big improvements over the Honeywell.

I like the fact that the thermostat can be on the table in front of me during the programing.

Note: I added a LED to the circuit that tells me when the circulating pump is energized.

While the unit is easy to install, I have to agree with an earlier reviewer who complained about the quality of the instruction sheet. Type is a bear to read in the illustrations and this made the installation much harder than it needed to be. Had to get out a magnifier to read some of them. It's all about attention to details = and this printing job needs lots of attention.

I needed a thermostat that could be set with a differential (+/-) because I would get a horrible oil smell when my furnace cycled too fast with a precise thermostat. This one was perfect. Plus, the differential adjusts easily if need be.

I bought two of these units to replace two Honeywell units. I thought they would be simple to install. Just follow the directions, label the wires as noted. Did that! However, how do you figure which wire goes where when the directions are badly printed and you cannot read the smeared printing? Go to their website to get a crisp version right? Wrong! Same thing. OK call tech support...not open on weekends. Not even the hardware store can figure out. OK I figured it out by calling an AC guy. No thanks to Robert Shaw!

I have set the unit to bring up the temp in the morning and reduce it at bedtime. Easy to set or
override if needed. Much better that that old bi-metal unit that I had for so long. Can't wait to see the saving on the electric bill.

The most important feature regarding this product is the Temperature differential. This means you can adjust the burner to go on and off with respect to the temp. For Example: + or - 1 degrees differential means that if you set your thermostat to 70, the heat would come on at 69 and go off at 71. This actually uses less fuel and causes less wear and tear on your burner by cycling it less often. Other thermostats have no Temp differential adjustment and is Permanently set at about a .25 degrees Differential. This means that the burner come on and off 4 times more to maintain that exact temp. Yes other thermostats have a cycle differential, but not a temprature differential, so if it is very cold outside, the burner will keep coming on to try and maintain that .25 degree differential. I found that my burner was running all the time and constantly turning on and off every 15 minutes. I swithed to the Robertshaw and me and my burner are very happy now.

The instructions for the switches on back, ie auto recovery, are inconsistent with the labeling on the switch panel. Other than that it performs well and was here on time.
