Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw 9701i2 Programmable 1 Heat/1 Cool Hardwired Thermostat:
Easy to install and quite configurable / customizable. The only thing I didn't like was having either 4 or 6 times of day and having the thermostat name those times of day for you. I wanted 5 set back times, but either had to go to 4 or 6. When selecting 6, I was forced to have a wake, morning, noon, afternoon, evening and sleep. The noon was useless for me, so I used it as "return" home. This made the other settings push into the evening hours.
I also purchased and installed the outdoor tempurature sensor which displays the outdoor temp on the thermostat. Works great, but have very small letters -- making the outdoor temp somewhat hard to read unless you're right on top of it.
Other than that, it's a good themostat that I would recommend.

My furnace and A/C installer had previous model in stock (9701i), and said there was practically no difference. I did my homework and found that the "i2" version had completely new firmware and was much easier to use. I stuck to my guns and arranged to buy it on-line. Prothermostats had it at a better price than my installer offered for the older version. I am 100% satisfied with this product.

Comments about Robertshaw Robertshaw 9701i2 Programmable 1 Heat/1 Cool Hardwired Thermostat:
We don't like the look of modern controls in an antique home, so the idea was to hide the thermostat in a closet and install the more discrete remote sensor in the room itself. The idea was that the remote sensor would override the control. Big mistake: When the closet door is closed, the heat cranks like crazy, since the temp gets read in the closet, too! I am not sure what the remote sensor does, as the control seems to work solely off its closet surroundings....

First, the only reason I had to replace my 18 year old Robertshaw was that I carelessly slammed the cover back on and broke a piece of plastic necessary to hold the cover in place. This new unit is so intuitive that you barely need the instruction manual. It is also very versatile, allowing much more control over times and temperatures. My only complaint is that with spring here, I'd like the afternoon temperature a little lower, leaving me to make changes on seven different days. With the old one, there was an offset temperature for when you were asleep or not home, and a regular temperature. Much less control, but only one change needed.

had every feature we were looking for. Only a couple other make/models I could find have 6 daily temperature periods. Cut our heating bill in half. Haven't had a summer yet to test the AC function. We use it to heat/cool an 80'x15'storefront room.
